In some cases, if you pay a little more for the DIY, it will be worth the lesson. You get the knowledge of whether it's worth trying to do it again. I remember 35 years ago changing the faucet mechanism in the kitchen sink when I bought my first house. My new wife was a little shocked to hear the swearing.

I completely agree with you. It is better to go to a specialist. You did the right thing by going to a specialist. You were told about the problem in clear language. You were told what could cause it and how to fix it, so there would be no more problems.
